Garden Theme

Check out these fantastic plant picture books for $2 at SproutClassrooms.com!

* Lots of plants (check out the free page to find out how to get some for free).

* Obtain a park bench from www.freecycle.org or www.craigslist.com.

* Put out some small, gurgling fountains-very cheap at Walgreens or CVS.

* Hang windchimes by your door.

* Build a pond

I'm going to be giving each student a charm bracelet (without charms) at the beginning of the year, and they will be able to collect charms on it for each event we do. These charms are so cheap they just beg to included in your celebration. And the amount is perfect for any size classroom-I don't think it's legal in any state to exceed 36 students.

*Do an 'Into the Woods' theme with books that take place in/around magical forests and gardens.  Create a reading center with the Whomping Willow from Harry Potter.  Turn your morning meeting area into Narnia (find a garment rack, hang 'fur' coats from it and put a cardboard wardrobe frame around it, get a lamppost from a prom magazine), use Frog and Toad, the Wind and Willows, the Secret Garden, etc.
