Six Traits- Courtesy of Miss Campioni. I love the simplicity of this wall, and the placement above the writing center.

Dead Word Wall- This wall is my Halloween masterpiece. I use to have students brainstorm 'dead' (overused) words, but it was very difficult for them (see board above). So I just decided to do it all ahead of time and make it a reference for them. Trace the gravestone several times on sheets of posterboard (see clip art when you click 'Dead Word Wall' above). Then trace or write the dead words and their alternatives onto the grave stones. The smaller words on the PDF are alternatives for 'said', which I write on bats that fly around the gravestones. Create a large spooky tree to hang over the graveyard and you're all set to have a funeral for those overused words! Mini-lesson
